Synopsis
In 1791, the government had to put an excise tax on Whiskey to pay off their debt. Farmers were infuriated by this tax and refused to pay it. When the tax was lowered, most of the Farmers accepted the tax; however, the “Whiskey Boys” did not stop there. These rebels were dangerous, dismissed the law, and tar and feathered tax collectors who got in their way. Washington ended this rebellion by leading 13,000 militia troops into Pittsburgh.
